Direct answer
There is no single final expense premium for everyone your age. Price depends on the product, benefit amount and rating factors; health and tobacco use matter for some products but not all. Compare both the payment and what a covered death would pay during the first years.
Which details change a final expense premium?
A monthly premium buys a particular contract for a particular applicant. Underwritten insurance may consider age, health and tobacco use; the benefit amount and policy features also affect cost. Texas Department of Insurance: life insurance guide
Do not apply every rating factor to every product. For example, United of Omaha’s direct guaranteed whole life cost explanation identifies age, gender and benefit amount, without health-based pricing. That is a specific product, not a rule for all final expense coverage. Mutual of Omaha: cost factors for its guaranteed whole life product
Before comparing prices, put the assumptions on paper: the product and insurer, state, quote date, age used, benefit amount, payment mode, any applicable tobacco or health classification, and included riders. Ask what still needs verification.
Compare the benefit, not just the payment
Suppose two hypothetical offers have different monthly premiums for the same stated face amount. The lower payment does not settle the comparison if the early protection differs. The following is a comparison method, not two actual quotes.
| Comparison point | Level-benefit proposal | Initially limited-benefit proposal |
|---|---|---|
| Early covered natural death | Check whether the stated benefit applies from the effective date. | Check the exact reduced amount or formula and how long it lasts. |
| Premium commitment | Record payment frequency, fees and how long payments continue. | Record the same details; an easier application does not establish a lower price. |
| Application assumptions | Confirm health questions and the insurer’s decision. | Confirm whether it is health-underwritten or guaranteed issue; the benefit label alone does not tell you. |
United of Omaha’s guaranteed whole life terms illustrate why the distinction matters: natural-death benefits are reduced for the first two years. United of Omaha: guaranteed whole life policy terms (PDF) See our waiting-period guide for a fuller explanation.
Make a premium commitment you can revisit
Multiply the monthly payment by 12 to understand the annual household commitment. This arithmetic helps with budgeting; it does not predict investment returns or determine whether a policy is suitable.
Use the monthly payment on your actual quote × 12 for a year of monthly payments. This may differ from the insurer’s annual-payment price. Compare the commitment with the money left after housing, food, medication, utilities, and other priorities.
If the amount feels uncomfortable, request a smaller benefit comparison before committing. Use the coverage-amount guide to separate remaining expenses from costs already funded.

A useful quote should leave you able to explain the commitment to someone else. If all you can remember is “coverage from a few dollars,” ask for a complete summary.

Common questions
Can you publish a rate for everyone my age?
Age alone is not enough to establish a personal premium. State, product, benefit amount, and eligibility details also matter.
Does paying less always mean a better deal?
No. A lower payment may purchase a smaller benefit or different policy terms. Compare the complete offer.
